Rock Scholars Bands
The Rock Scholars band program is about music and getting on stage, but it also encourages teamwork, social connections and friendship. We want to put young musicians in an environment where they will be stimulated, challenged and encouraged and form long-lasting relationships with their bandmates. We take great care when bringing kids or teenagers together to make a Rock Scholars band. The result of this is that lots of them stay together for a long time, they form real identity and a musical style of their own, and in many cases they go on to play together outside of Rock Scholars. They get to experience what it's really like to play in a band.
Take a look at some the current crop of Rock Scholars bands.
Intrusion was unanimously voted Rock Scholars band of the year 2017 by our panel of mentors and their line up also includes our former Guitar player of the year Paddy Whitford, and vocalist Jye Criddle who recently won the 2019 Fairbridge Quest song performance award.
Heavily influenced by the Seattle grunge scene these guys have matured into a genuine musical force and in April 2019 they released their debut EP which you can check out here.

When Ricochet first came together as the Crazy Bananas in 2016 they were the youngest band in Rock Scholars history, and in 2019 they are still going strong. Founding members Caleb (drums) and Alexander (guitar and bass) form the rhythmic backbone of this band, supported by the dual guitar attack of Ashley and Oscar.
Newest member Olivia has stepped in to take on vocal duties and is giving Ricochet a new lease of life and a new fresh sound.

Detour joined the Rock Scholars band program in 2017 after a few of the members met for the first time at one of our school holiday jam sessions. Since then they have developed into a firm favourite amongst our team of mentors.
Still barely teenagers, Detour have a mature indie rock sound led by Becca’s distinctive vocals, a super solid rhythm section and Jonah’s sparse, tasteful guitar playing.

Evolving from the band that once was Parklife, became Boxset Boyfriend and now enjoying a new lease of life as Patio Living.
With the addition of new vocalist Andara to the band, they have become a powerful and compelling live act with great songs and stage presence.
The plan for 2019 is to focus on writing new material, enter a few band comps, and have fun. You know - all that!

The band FKA Simply Dysfunctional sometimes struggled to find their musical identity. With a new line-up, fresh material and heap of attitude, new incarnation Greenhound has no such problem.
Drawing their influences from the heavy rock of the 80s and 90s, Greenhound’s sometimes stoner- sometimes psych-rock hits hardest when you see it live. Long instrumental breakouts allow these four virtuoso musicians to stretch their musical muscle but the songs are melodic and well-structured. Go see ‘em next time they play.
Vocals and Bass: Jack
Homebrand came together at Rock Scholars in 2013 and are now the elder statesmen of our band program.
A power-house of the Perth underage music scene, Homebrand have played a lot of headline shows around YMCA HQ, Four5Nine, The Garage, Babushka, Rubber Soul Lounge and The Carine. In October 2017 Homebrand released their first studio single "Shelf" – which won Rock Scholars song of the year 2017 - a fast paced, gritty song that takes a modern turn on Punk rock.
Daryl - Bass and vocals
Billy - guitar
Sam - guitar and vocals
Ollie - drums
These guys met at Rock Scholars in mid 2017 and have already achieved some amazing things including winning the 2018 Rock Scholars Scholarpalooza! battle of the bands competition.
Their infectious brand of indie pop and Imogen's captivating vocal performances have wowed audiences everywhere they play.
In the short time they have been together they have written some great original songs and they’re musical style is constantly evolving, currently heading in a direction somewhere north of psych-rock.
Imogen - vocals and bass
Tim - guitar
Chloe - guitar
