School Holidays Workshops

When school stops the music keeps going at Rock Scholars – during the school holidays we normally run a packed program of activities including jam sessions, workshops and clinics.

These activities are open to everyone but spaces are limited so bookings are essential.

Everything takes place at our fully equipped premises in Osborne Park under the supervision of our mentors and tutors, who all hold working with children clearance, so your kids and teenagers will be entertained, stimulated and safe. Our programs change every holiday and are updated regularly so bookmark this page or subscribe to our newsletter to get up to date information on upcoming events and activities.

School Holiday Jam Sessions

"To 'jam' is to improvise music without extensive preparation or predefined arrangements......"

Rock Scholars jam sessions are a great way to experience the thrill of playing in a band for the first time, meeting new musicians to hang out with, or just having fun.

In a safe and fully supervised environment the kids will spend a few hours playing contemporary and classic rock songs and learning the basics of playing together in a band - timing, dynamics, and how to listen to and play with each other.  This not only develops musicianship but also the values of teamwork, respect and co-operation.

We provide use of our fully equipped rehearsal rooms that are set up and ready to go with drum kits, PA systems, keyboards and guitar amps. You are invited to bring your own guitars, drumsticks or anything else you fancy, or just use ours.

We have October jam sessions scheduled as follows:

Young ones (ages 9 - 13):

Tuesday, 1st Oct - 10am to 1pm
Wednesday, 2nd Oct - 2pm to 5pm
Thursday, 3rd Oct - 10am to 1pm
Tuesday, 8th Oct - 10am to 1pm
Wednesday, 9th Oct - 10am to 1pm
Thursday, 10th Oct - 2pm to 5pm

Teens (ages 14 - 17)

Thursday, 3rd Oct - 2pm to 5pm
Tuesday, 8th Oct - 2pm to 5pm

Cost - $40 per session.

These jam sessions are a great introduction to the Rock Scholars band program for anyone considering enrolling in the future.

Bring: your own guitar, drumsticks, ukulele or whatever you like otherwise all instruments and equipment provided, and please bring a drink bottle (chilled filtered water is available to fill it with).

Drum clinics

Rock Scholars is delighted to offer these two hour drum clinics for complete beginners hosted by our very own Josh Wright. Josh has been teaching drums and mentoring bands at Rock Scholars for three years.

If your son or daughter is considering taking up the drums, these sessions are a perfect opportunity to try it out. They will be very hands on - you will spend two hours learning basic drum techniques, rudiments, grooves and rhythm patterns, and of course playing the drums.

Places are limited to ensure a close-up and personal experience, so please book early. We feel these clinics are best suited to young drummers aged 9 and above.
